Description
REQUEST FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST - Beryllium Assemblies and Components for Nuclear Reactors and Reactor Systems I. INTRODUCTION Battelle Energy Alliance LLC (BEA), Management & Operating Contractor of the Idaho National Laboratory (INL), is requesting an expression of interest from prospective companies which are qualified and capable to manufacture reactor control assemblies made of reactor-grade beryllium, hafnium, inconel and stainless steel components for use in nuclear reactors and reactor systems at the INL. This would include the production and procurement of all materials needed to manufacture these components. Only companies that meet all requirements herein should respond to this Expression of Interest. II. PROJECT DESCRIPTION The assemblies (qty 16) are of cylindrical shape overall, 8 inches in diameter by 48 inches long, Materials of construction are nuclear grade beryllium parts, 8 inches in diameter by 16 inches in length, and various smaller parts of hafnium, stainless steel, aluminum and inconel. All parts require significant machining to very tight tolerances. Potential suppliers must have a quality program that will meet all basic NQA-1 requirements with the exception of design control (#3), have verifiable experience machining beryllium of equal complexity and have verifiable experience machining beryllium within OSHA guidelines. III. SUBMITTAL REQUIREMENTS Prospective candidates should provide a brief written response to address the following: 1. Overview of the company including name, phone number, and e-mail address of a representative of the firm who we can be contacted regarding this Request for Expression of Interest. 2. Detailed description of meeting the requirements and qualifications described in Sections I and II above. This description must include the following: a. Summary of the company quality program b. Experience machining beryllium to the standards described in Section II c. Descriptions of at least three (3) projects over the last five years of similar scope and complexity Please provide your expression of interest by email to the undersigned by Close-of-Business, September 4, 2009.
