- Description
- RECOVERY - The National Park Service contemplates issuing a Sole Source award under a General Service Administration (GSA) delivery order to Xiotech Corporation, for the procurement of the Xiotech 7000 Storage Area Network. NPS is looking to procure a Storage Area Network (SAN) capable of storing data, including, but not limited to general files, print files and database files. These files will be used by all of the approximate 600 users in the NPS Alameda and Academy Place locations, as well as some systems that are NPS service-wide applications. This SAN shall include approximately 40TB of useable fibre channel drive storage and 70TB of useable SATA drive storage. Xiotech Corporation is the only vendor on GSA that offers its products which are also currently the same brand product already installed in the NPS environment. Our current SAN environment is Xiotech and it is not cost effective to change the brand of hardware to allow competition for this requirement. Many of the features included in the 7000 SAN are only available on a Xiotech SAN. No other brand of SAN is able to deliver this technology. Additionally, compatibility with our existing Xiotech SAN makes management much more streamlined with the need for only one interface. Additionally, migration of data across systems would be seamless. Since the new SAN employs a switched back-end fabric instead of an arbitrated loop, the front-end fabric should be incorporated into the existing Xiotech fabric. To use a different brand of SAN would also cause disruption of maintenance services as Xiotech will not maintain its system if they are intertwined with other SAN systems. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotes. However, interested firms or persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement or submit proposals. The Government will consider all responses received by 10:00am MST, Monday August 31th, 2009. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed task order based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. Responses should be forwarded to Heather Madsen via email at heather_madsen@nps.gov. NPS will not provide a reply until after the closing date of Monday, August 31, 2009 when all parties have had an opportunity to respond. NO PHONE CALLS PLEASE.
