Description
The NASA Headquarters Office of Chief Engineer with coordination of the GoddardSpace Flight Center (GSFC), Langley Research Center and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory iscurrently preparing a set of high-level national roadmaps that will influence thefoundation of NASAs strategic investment plan on laser-based instrument (e.g. lidar, laser absorption spectrometers etc.) and spacecraft (e.g. free space laser communications-FSLC) laser transmitter and receiver (photon-sensitive detectors and arrays, ultranarrow-band optical filters) technology. The purpose of this request is to solicitinformation from private industries, universities and other entities for the roadmapdevelopment process, with the goal of ensuring that the best and widest possible set ofideas is considered in the formulation of NASA's plans for the future. The informationcollected via this RFI will be supplied to NASA Laser/Lidar Working Group (LWG) to informtheir deliberations and discussions. It is anticipated that the final roadmaps and theintegrated architecture may ultimately contribute to NASAs strategic investmentdecisions, but this RFI in no way constitutes a promise or expectation of future fundingopportunities from NASA. The requested information can be submitted to NASA by Sept 1st,2009, as follows:1. Submission of capabilities, past experience in areas of space based lidar systems andFSLC. (Not to exceed 2 pages) [DO NOT SUBMIT PROPRIETARY OR COMPETITION SENSITIVEINFORMATION in response to this RFI.] and/or2. Submission of letter of intent as potential partners and technology developers onLidar and FSLC for future NASA missions. (Not to exceed 1 page) Any information obtained as a result of this RFI is intended to be used by the Governmenton a non-attribution basis for roadmap development. NASA is not planning any acquisitionas a result of this RFI. No solicitation exists; therefore, do not request a copy of thesolicitation. The successful NASA field center is responsible for determining andconducting any procurement action(s) relating to its individual concept proposal.NASA POINT OF CONTACT (For all questions and comments E-mail is preferred) Dr. MichaelA.
