Description
COPE OF WORK FOR RQ LSC20090182 Ft Meade corrugated boxes Background: The Library of Congress (LC) is the nation's repository for vast amounts of material, in various media from all over the world. This accumulation of material has caused a storage problem. To alleviate this growing problem the Library of Congress will be storing books in an environmentally controlled, high density, off-site storage facility similar to other library storage facilities. The goal for this project is for the boxes and corrugated board described herein to last decades and to make a sturdy container to protect our nation's library's books in an environmentally controlled storage facility. The box manufacturer shall use their expertise to ensure that the board and boxes are made to the highest standards while being cost effective. Product: LC requires the fabrication and timely delivery of lidded boxes manufactured of Buffered Alkaline Kraft or acid free Corrugated B-Flute board which will hold approximately 17.81 inches of upright books for long term storage. The Library of Congress will be storing books in an environmentally controlled, high density, off-site storage facility similar to other library storage facilities. The books will be from collections still in use, therefore, the storage boxes will be in active use for retrieving and returning books. The boxes will be stored, one high, on shelves and will not be stacked when loaded. The storage facility will accommodate more than 4 million books. More than 100,000 have been already purchased since 1999 to support housing of collections inside Modules 1 and 2. The boxes for request will be 10 different sizes (Sizes A through E: each category has a High and Low Size) as follows: UPDATED DIMENSION OF FORT MEADE BOXES Feb-09 OUTER DIMENSIONINNER DIMENSION SIZES *HEIGHTWIDTHLENGTHHEIGHTWIDTHLENGTH AL7 1/2"6 1/218 75 1/416 1/2 AH8 1/2"6 1/218 85 1/416 1/2 BL8 1/2"7 1/218 86 1/416 1/2 BH10 1/2"7 1/218 106 1/416 1/2 CL10 1/2"9 18 107 1/216 1/2 CH12 1/2"9 18 127 1/216 1/2 DL12 1/2"10 1/211 129 1/49 1/2 DH14 1/2"10 1/211 149 1/49 1/2 EL14 1/2"1312 1411 3/410 1/2 EH16 1/2"1312 1611 3/410 1/2 The Library intends to purchase around 16,000 boxes of these 10 dimensions and 16,000 handles to support the move of special collections and general collections to Ft Meade.
