Description

BROOKHAVEN NATIONAL LABORATORY Electron Beam Dump Electron beam dump is needed for the BNL energy recovery LINAC (ERL) to collect up to 1 MW of power unrecovered by the ERL. ERL beam collector specs: a maximum total power of 1 MW must be removed based on the following electron beam parameter and electron beam energy/average current options: electron energy 2 MeV, total average electron beam current 0.5 A, or electron beam energy of 3 MeV with a corresponding reduction in current, such that the total power does not exceed 1 MW. Discarded electron beam travels horizontally. To fit within the BNL ERL system; external dump dimensions: collector must be not longer than 75 inches (horizontal dimension), and no wider than 25 inches (vertical dimension), except for inlet and outlet cooling pipes. Beam collector must be a water cooled copper structure made of OFE - Cu. Copper must come from either a US or a West European mill (with traceability). Beam dump must have ASME pressure vessel code certification or its equivalency.
