- Description
- Q1. Under this Solicitation, is the army interested in a new bullet designwith improved, multi-mission terminal performance and better accuracy compared to the current AP rounds (Not just a replacement)? This would be US-based intellectual property and manufacturing. A1. In this solicitation, the Army is interested in procuring a cartridge thatmeets the minimum requirements of the performance specification. If this is accomplished with a new design that exceeds the requirements and surpasses the performance of the current design, that would be acceptable. Q2. According to the Solicitation, the M995 (5.56mm) cartridge is used in fully automatic and semi-automatic weapons. The M993 (7.62mm) is used in bolt action sniper rifles. Is this correct, or will the M993 also be used in semi- and fully auto weapons? Will quantities for M995 be substantially higher than M993? A2. As stated in the M993 performance specification, the M993 will also be used in the M240 Machine Gun. The M993 will be primarily used in machine gun applications. The M995 quantities are not forecast to be higher than the M993. Future quantities are to be determined. Q3. What are the requirements concerning tracer rounds and links for both calibers? A3. This solicitation only deals with the procurement of the M995 and M993. There is no requirement under this solicitation for tracer ammunition or links. The Army's intent is to procure both the M995 and M993 in commercial packaging configuration. The rounds will later be packaged in other assorted Military configurations.
