- Description
- NASA/ARC has a requirement for a set of motion controllers, drivers and actuators. This requirement is to automate control of the optical system in the Ames CoronagraphExperiment (ACE) to improve on the state of the art in coronagraphy, in conjunction withPhase-Induced Amplitude Aprodization (PIAA) beam-shaping mirror technology. NASA/ARC requires control of 9 motions of various elements of the ACE optical system. The three groups are as follows: 1. Four motions should have resolution of tens of nanometers with repeatability betterthan 1 micron over 25mm of travel with close loop control. 2. Four motions should have resolution better than 1 micron with repeatability betterthan 10 microns over 25mm of travel.3. One micron should have a resolution better than 1 micron with repeatability betterthan 10 microns over 250mm of travel with closed loop control. NASA/ARC intends to purchase the items from Newport Corporation, 1791 Deere Ave., Irvine,CA 92606. The Newport controllers are unique in their ability to control both DC servomotors and stepper motors from the same controller box. This equipments needs to be compatible with the current ACE system, including fittingwith in ACE optical layout and thermal enclosure and adapting to Newport translationstages. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12.Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform theeffort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:30 p.m. local timeon August 12, 2009 to Rachel Jandron at Rachel.A.Jandron@nasa.gov. Suchcapabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determiningwhether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by theGovernment not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretion of the government.Oral communications are not acceptable in response to this notice. All responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by the agency. An Ombudsman has been appointed.
