- Description
- The National Science Foundation proposes to enter into a purchase order with Lux Research, Inc to obtain access to their Lux Research Nanomaterials Intelligence (LRNI) service. The National Nanotechnology Coordination Office (NNCO) provides technical and administrative support on behalf of the Nanoscale Science, Engineering, and Technology (NSET) Subcommittee of the National Science and Technology Council. The NSET Subcommittee is the coordinating body for the National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI). NNCO was created in 2001 under a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and others. NNCO currently provides support to 17 additional agencies that have joined the NSET Subcommittee since 2001, for a total of 25 agencies participating in the NNI as of 2009. The NSET Subcommittee has approved an FY 2009 NNCO budget that includes funds for NNCO to subscribe to the LRNI service. This service will provide access for all NSET Subcommittee members to the series of reports on nanotechnology that LUX Research has prepared over the past several years, and any new reports that they publish over the coming year. These reports are the most frequently cited source of information on nanotechnology investment trends and market opportunities, both within the United States and around the world. The breadth of detailed information available through the LRNI service is not available from any other source. Also, the NSET Subcommittee requires access to the LUX Research information in order to be better able to compare other sources of information to the LUX Research information, and therefore to evaluate the validity of the highly cited LUX Research reports. Purchasing this subscription to the LRNI service will also provide NNCO staff members and NSET Subcommittee members with direct access to LUX Research analysts who prepared these reports, and will therefore enable direct communication concerning the methodologies that LUX has been using to develop its nanotechnology reports, thus allowing for better assessment of the validity of those reports. See note 22 except that responses demonstrating their capability to provide a comparable service are due no later than 4:00pm, July 21, 2009.
