Description
The DES Collaboration is building the Dark Energy Camera (DECam) as a facility instrument for the National Optical Astronomy Observatories (NOAO). DECam will be mounted on the Blanco 4-m telescope at the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory (CTIO), and it will be used for the optical-near infrared survey of 5,000 sq. deg of the South Galactic Cap in five (5) filter bands. A general description of the instrument and overall project can be found at www.darkenergysurvey.org. The DES Collaboration requires five (5) specific Filters, which we call DES g, DES r, DES i, DES z and DES y. DES filter band passes are similar to those used by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. The Filter shall be 13 mm thick, and 620 mm diameter with a minimum clear aperture of 610 mm diameter, concentric with substrate diameter. Tight homogeneity specifications are required by our scientific goals. For example, we require that the band pass and transmission curve varies by less than 5% over the area of the Filter. Detailed Technical Specifications can be provided to interested parties. It is imperative that inquiries from interested parties must come from firms that have five (5) or more years of experience and capabilities in the design and manufacture of Filters, as descibed above.
