Description
Request for Information (RFI) for the budgetary proposal for the conceptual design of an argon re-liquefaction system for a large underground liquid argon particle physics detector vessel in accordance with the following Scope and Specification: 1. The firm must have at least 10 years of experience in the design of cryogenic liquid production systems. 2. Ultra-pure liquid argon will be used as a detector medium for observing neutrino oscillations at the Deep Underground Science and Engineering Laboratory (DUSEL). 3. The re- liquefaction system must provide approximately 40kw of cooling capacity to the particle physics detector. 4. The firm must provide a conceptual design for a detector located 300' below the surface (Option 1) and a detector located 4800' below the surface (Option 2). 5. The firm must provide a construction and operating cost estimates and resource loaded schedule which includes design, construction and installation tasks. 6. The firm is not required to consider excavation. 7. It is desirable that the firm provide a Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) of the conceptual design. This RFI does not commit Fermilab or the United States Government to pay any costs incurred in the preparation or submission of any response to procure any supplies or services. Please note that Fermi Research Alliance (FRA or Fermilab) does not have funding at this time; however, it is anticipated that we will have funding for this procurement in the near future.
