Description
Request for Information (RFI) for the budgetary proposal for the conceptual design of an underground 20,000 metric ton (20kt) liquid argon particle physics detector vessel with a membrane configuration in accordance with the following Scope and Specification: 1. The engineering firm must have five or more years of experience in the design and construction of large membrane cryogenic vessels. 2. Ultra-pure liquid argon will be used as a detector medium for observing neutrino oscillations at the Deep Underground Science and Engineering Laboratory (DUSEL). 3. The firm must be able to provide conceptual designs for construction of the vessel in a shallow underground (300') cavern a. (Option 1) with drive-in access and a deep underground (4800') cavern b. (Option 2) with shaft access. 4. The firm must provide a cost estimate and resource loaded schedule which includes design, construction and installation tasks. 5. The firm is not required to consider the design of the cavern. 6. It is desirable that the firm provide a Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA of the conceptual design. This RFI does not commit Fermilab or the United States Government to pay any costs incurred in the preparation or submission of any response to procure any supplies or services. Please note that Fermi Research Alliance (FRA or Fermilab) does not have funding at this time; however, it is anticipated that we will have funding for this procurement in the near future.
