- Description
- The National Institutes of Health (NIH), Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) intends to purchase sequencing services of Illumina, Inc., 9885 Towne Centre Drive, San Diego, CA 92121-1975. The Institute intends to purchase this service by other than full and open competition under the authority of the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) 6.302. The needed services include: 1.Item# DS-101-1002 - Single Read Seq (250Mb) Library Construction by customer. Resequencing dataset of Clonal Single Molecule Array signature tags of 50nt length resulting in at least 250 Mega bases of sequence per sample, QTY (8 EA) 2.Item# SW-600-1004 - GenomeStudio DNA Sequencing Module (1-Seat) Illumina Inc is the only company that provides the number of sequence reactions needed for our experiment at the NICHD. Illumina will provide these services using Illuminas proprietary technology. This experimental approach is a high throughput application to identify all genes in Schizosaccharomyces pombe (S. pombe) required to survive conditions of stress. The lab at the NICHD has developed a mutagenesis tool for the fission yeast S. pombe using the Hermes transposon. The lab will introduce Hermes into a culture of cells to allow transposition to occur. The final culture will include cells with insertions at millions of unique sites in the genome and not insertions into genes required to survive the specific stress. In order to saturate the genome and identify statistically significant gaps, we will need to identify the positions of 5-10 million integrations events using ultra high throughput sequencing technology. For the experiment the overall number of sequence reads is very critical. Using sequencing services from Illumina will provide the easiest and the most cost effective way to sequence 5-10 million integration events which is an important factor as well. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations however, all responses received, within 7 days from the date of publication of this synopsis will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed acquisition is based upon responses to this notice and is solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive acquisition. Offerors may request a copy of the Request for Quotation (RFQ) in writing to the Contracting Office Address listed or via email to: robinsti@mail.nih.gov prior to the closing date of this notice or before July 13, 2009 @ 3:00 pm EST. It is anticipated that RFQ - NICHD2009050 will be available seven (7) days after the publication date of this synopsis. Receipt of quotations will be due five (5) days after the release of the RFQ. All requests for quotations must have a valid email address. Email quotations must contain offerors name, address, telephone number and an authorized company representative signature. If you have any question regarding this announcement, please contact Tina Robinson via email. PLEASE NOTE: In order to receive an award, contractor must be registered and have valid certification in the Central Contractor Registration (CCR) (http://www.ccr.gov).
