Description
Synopsis:The work will include excavating wetland basins and water delivery/drainage channels, removing earthen berms, constructing levees and islands, and spreading/smoothing excess soil material on nearby irrigated pasture to re-establish variable topography. Work of this nature would typically involve a self-loading scraper, 4WD tractor with disc, and a road grader. The work is to take place on The Snobird Unit (located approximately 20 miles to the NW of the Merced unit) of the Merced NWR The work to be done on this unit will require excavation of approximately 56,000 cubic yards of material to restore a 28 acre wetland basin and enhance a 100 acre wetland basin and a 16 acre wetland basin with low flow channels within the basins for drainage and water delivery channels. 28-Acre Wetland - A basin will be excavated as specified (avg. depth 1 ft.) within a leveled pasture. A low-flow channel (12' wide x 12" deep [10:1 slope]) leading to the outlet will be developed. Soil material will be used to construct an island and containment levee. Excess spoil will be spread out in low mounds throughout the pasture and smoothed over with a disk to re-establish variable topography on the site.100-acre and 16-acre wetlands - Designated areas within leveled pastures will be excavated to link up with existing wetland basins to create a larger wetland complex. Berms with the existing wetland will be breached or reshaped as specified. Low-flow channels (12' wide x 12" deep [10:1 slope] leading to the outlets will be developed. Excavated material will be used to create loafing islands within the basins, basin levees, and repair a stretch of road along a canal. Levees will be constructed at varying lengths to the following dimensions: 10' wide x 2.5' high at a 3:1 slope. Excess soil will be spread out in low mounds throughout the adjacent pastures and smoothed over with a disk to re-establish variable topography on the site.
