- Description
- NASA/ARC plans to issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) for a SUPERSONIC STACKEDTOROID INFLATABLE DECELERATOR MODEL. The Supersonics and Hypersonics Projects of NASAs Fundamental Aeronautics Program areengaged in research on aerodynamic and propulsive decelerator concepts for slowing downlarge spacecraft in the supersonic speed regime as they enter planetary atmospheres. Various aerodynamic decelerator concepts have been or are currently being studied:tension cone, iso-tensoid, and stacked toroid (sphere cone). Supersonic test data areneeded for the stacked toroid concept.The offeror shall design a model meeting the statement of requirements (to be providedwith the solicitation), then fabricate one model and deliver to Ames by the requireddelivery date.A backup model may be requested. The offeror should also plan to beavailable for up to a week prior to or during the start of the test of the model in thewind tunnel to provide manufacturer support.The Government does not intend to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12.See Note26.The NAICS Code and Size Standard are 336419 and 1,000, respectively. All responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by the agency.The anticipated release date of the solicitation is on or about July 20, 2009 with ananticipated offer due date of on or about September 15, 2009.An ombudsman has been appointed -- See NASA Specific Note "B".The solicitation and any documents related to this procurement will be available over theInternet. These documents will reside on a World Wide Web (WWW) server, which may beaccessed using a WWW browser application.
