Description
RECOVERY - Sources Sought to repair and refurbish a historical elevator located at Vanderbilt Mansion. This is a sources sought for planning purposes only! The National Park Service is seeking sources technically capable of repairing a historic elevator at the Vanderbilt Mansion. The elevator was installed by the Otis Elevator Company as a hand operated lift in 1897. Shortly thereafter, the Otis Elevator Company returned and installed locking safety devices on all the doors. The Otis Elevator Company again returned in 1936 to electrify and install control systems. No work, other than normal inspections, testing and maintenance has been performed since that date. The project is intended to replace the operating machinery, safety and control systems with modern equipment while preserving the historic car, doors, lighting and control devices that are visible to the public. As it is paramount that the historic fabric be preserved and the results of all new work be invisible to the visiting public, the firm and the workers on the job, have a proven record of experience in retrofitting and preserving this vintage and type of elevator, (i.e. Pre World War II small single car Otis systems.), as well as the ability to obtain modern parts that will interface seamlessly with the remaining original fabric and mechanical devices. (For example, retrofitting the existing hoistway and car call buttons, light and alarm switches to work with modern web and other contact systems used with newer controllers.) Firms interested should provide documentation sufficient to demonstrate capability to perform the above work and a brief history of work performed similar in size, nature and technical expertise. Responses are request not later than close of business 1 July 2009.
