Description
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Blakely, Georgia and Dawson, Georgia. Science Specialty Laboratories (SSL) intend to award a Sole Source, Requirements Type, Indefinite Delivery Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) in accordance with FAR 13.303, FAR 16.503 & 16.504 to Sigma Aldrich, Corporation - St. Louis, MO, to provide varied concentrations of aflatoxin mix in methanol or benzene to be used in the analysis of peanuts, peanut products, various grains, feeds, and tree nuts (pecans, walnuts, filberts, hazelnuts, almonds, Brazil nuts and pistachio nuts) and animal feeds for the presence of aflatoxin, a carcinogen (the byproduct of the Aspergillus Flavus mold). The approved methods for analyzing these products are (AOAC) 991.31 and 998.03 which require the use of standards to correctly identify and quantify aflatoxins found in commodities analyzed by the laboratories. These methods are published by AOAC and are available for purchase from them. The aflatoxin standards used for these analyses will be manufactured by Sigma (Supelco) on an as needed basis for the laboratories. B1, B2, G1 and G2 are the standards used in the analysis for the presence of aflatoxin. Sigma manufactures the standards B1, B2, G1 and G2 in a mix of methanol or benzene. The composition of these standards are specified in the AOAC methods used in the analyses. The source of these standards must remain the same because of tracking and requirements based on the ISO 17025 accreditation that is held for methods utilizing these standards. The exact date of award for the base period and number of option years is yet to be determined.
