- Description
- MSC NGW INDUSTRY DAYS SUMMARY MSC and DISA hosted an Industry Days for the Military Sealift Command (MSC) Next Generation Wideband (NGW) Satellite Communications (SATCOM) Capabilities Focused Procurement from 13 - 17 April 2009 at SAIC in McLean, VA. The purpose of this unclassified conference was to enable the Department of Defense (DOD) representatives to obtain information from industry experts on commercial satellite communications (COMSATCOM) services, commercial practices and how industry might best meet MSC needs. Industry was initially asked to respond to a Defense Information Technology Contracting Organization (DITCO) Request for Information (RFI) posted at www.FedBizOps.gov on 1 April 2009. Twenty-four companies responded to the RFI; 14 of these were small businesses. All respondents were invited to attend the one-on-one sessions and answer additional questions from DoD. Twenty companies accepted this invitation; 11 were small businesses. Information obtained from these activities will be used by DOD to better understand industry's ability to support MSC NGW requirements. It will be fundamental to shaping DOD's future NGW efforts. It will also be useful in obtaining a repository of industry considerations to inform acquisition strategy development. Some specific changes that have been identified as a result of Industry Days include: a) increasing the radome size to 1.5 meters; b) reducing the required worldwide coverage area; c) commercial maritime standards will be acceptable in lieu of MILSTDs except when noted; d) all equipment must be certified; e) availability requirements will be clarified to reflect both RF-only availability and end-to-end-availability; f) static IP architecture will be required; g) JIPM requirement is to be compliant with the JIPM modem within 36 months of it's availability at IOC: and h) The responsibility for all host nation agreements will reside with the vendor. This information is provided to assure industry representatives of the value of the information obtained during Industry Days. This information is not confirmation that an RFP will be issued.
