- Description
- The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) proposes to acquire, under single source procedures, one radome rated to 200 MPH for the Terminal Doppler Weather Radar (TDWR) manufactured by L-3 Communications, Electronic Space Systems Corporation (ESSCO), Ayer, MA. This radome will be used to replace the FAA's emergency stock radome. The purpose of the radome is to protect the antenna systems from weather exposure, while allowing minimal interference to radio frequency (RF) transmission through the radome. Each radome is comprised of several radome panels constructed of laminated fiberglass. These radomes help to ensure continuous availability during all types of weather conditions. The FAA intends to solicit and negotiate only with L-3 Communications, ESSCO in accordance with AMS Policy 3.2.2.4. Due to supportability issues, any radome used in the FAA system must be manufactured in accordance with ESSCO proprietary data. This announcement is for information purposes only.
