- Description
- Sources sought for information regarding Virtual Reality and other visualization tools INTRODUCTION: The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), is seeking information from companies, educational institutions, research and development laboratories (public and private), or other sources about commercially available systems, government available or near-commercial technologies that may be used for the development of next generation, information immersive operator environments for industry. This request for information is part of an overall strategy to identify, integrate or develop the next generation of certain operation control and training systems for fielding by government and industrial clients. PNNL is assessing the market to gain information about commercial off-the-shelf (COTS), government off-the-shelf (GOTS) and near commercial software products as well as hardware components specific to development of VR based tools for potential use at or in the development of tools to be used at installations world-wide supporting training and operations of large complex systems. CAPABILITIES The following capabilities, in a non-prioritized order, are of specific interest to PNNL: 2d and 3d visualization hardware and software, HCI aids including tracking and gesture recognition hardware and software, visors and feedback systems and related development tools, GIS interfaces, support for real time or near real time refresh of data to the VR environment; support for VR integrated modeling tools, support for recording participant actions for future use, support for intranet and internet hosted collaboration, secure communication technologies as they pertain to multi player VR environments. PNNL is requesting detailed product literature, to assist in determining the capability of software against specific requirements and future needs. Software vendors are invited to participate initially by providing information about their products. Based on the information provided and market research, selected vendors will be given the opportunity to continue in the assessment process by demonstrating capabilities of their software offering or components as needed to perform a more in-depth assessment of functional capabilities. The demonstration may take place at a vendor site or take the form of use of an evaluation copy of software. The goal of the assessment is to identify new capabilities and evaluate existing COTS, GOTS and near commercial products against specific functional requirements and future needs. These requirements and scenarios are derived from real-world needs, usability standards, and human factors. Other evaluation criteria include product maturity, interoperability with other systems and data; maintainability, expandability, standards compliance, certification or evaluation by external bodies, training support, and system costs. Please send product literature and/or other information to: Sheena Kanyid at Sheena.kanyid@pnl.gov or PO Box, 999 Richland, WA 99354 Proprietary information will be protected to the greatest extent provided by law. Please note that this information is being requested for information and planning purposes and does not commit the Government to pay any costs incurred with participation in this assessment or in the submission of any information requested. The Government does not intend to award a contract or otherwise pay for the information requested. THIS IS NOT A SOLICITATION/REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL, BUT A MARKET SURVEY TO LOCATE POTENTIAL SOURCES.
