- Description
- Battelle, Pacific Northwest Division, Management & Operating Contractor of the U.S. Department of Energy's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), is requesting information from prospective offers to provide: High Count Rate X-ray Photoelectron Spectrometer System with Controlled Environment Sample Transfer A new generation high count rate x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy based surface analysis system is being planned as a major new capability for the Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory (EMSL), a national US Department of Energy (DOE) User Facility located at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). This instrument will provide state-of-the-art high count rate so that chemical state information about minor constituents can be determined with reasonable statistics. This Ultra High vacuum based instrument is to have spatial resolution of better than 100 micron using a monochromatic Al Ka x-rays with state-of-the-art electron detection sensitivity. The instrument should consist of a controlled environment sample transfer system. Because we are planning to combine different types of experimental data on the same system we are interested in precision sample handling, sample registry, count rates per unit area and appropriate data output and processing for data fusion. We also expect to equip the instrument with an Ar ion source, (UPS) Ultraviolet Photoelectron Spectroscopy, and (FEAES) Field Emission Auger Electron Spectroscopy. This system must provide full automated sample manipulation and analysis. Programmable sample temperature controlled sample heating and cooling from -120ºC to 500ºC is required. Cooling down to -150oC is preferred. In addition, we require ease of operation and windows operated user interface and controls. EMSL being a user facility, the instrument supplier should offer user friendly training, high durability and excellent technical, engineering support to minimize the down time. Interested firms shall also provide information in the following areas as available: 1) A description of current experience, knowledge and capabilities directly applicable to the performance of the scope identified. 2) Brochures providing descriptions of equipment, maintenance and standard warranty, along with a current published commercial pricelist. This Request for Information (RFI) is part of a market research effort that will best address PNNL's needs. This RFI is issued for information and planning purposes only and does not constitute a solicitation. Battelle does not intend to award a contract on the basis of this RFI, or to otherwise pay for information received in response to this RFI. Please provide your expression of interest to the attention of the points of contact listed above. If you have questions or need additional information, they must also be submitted in writing to the points of contact.
