- Description
- Battelle, Pacific Northwest Division, Management & Operating Contractor of the U.S. Department of Energy's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), is requesting information from prospective offers to provide: Electron Microprobe The Environmental Molecular Science Laboratory is interested in purchasing an electron microprobe (EMP) analysis system. Because EMSL is a user facility, the instrument must support multiple disciplines, and must function as a serviceable scanning electron microscope. An instrument will be chosen that can image materials at high spatial resolution (2-3 µm) using a field emission electron gun. The instrument must also produce an electron beam current of high stability over the range from less than 1 nA (for imaging) and to at least 500 nA (for quantitative compositional analysis). Basic requirements include: i. The ability to mount five wavelength-dispersive x-ray spectrometers (WDS); ii. An integrated energy dispersive x-ray spectrometer for use in elemental abundance mapping and quantitative compositional analysis; iii. Imaging detectors for secondary and backscattered electrons; iv. Computer automation via the Windows operating system; v. A separate automated electron backscatter diffraction analysis system; vi. An automated cathodoluminescence spectrometer capable of integration with the WDS mapping system, and; vii. The accommodation of an accessory cold stage. The successful vendor will also be expected to supply ancillary equipment necessary for the system's operation, such as cutting and polishing equipment and analytical standards. This description is a summary of requirements, and detailed and complete specifications will be included prior to competition. Interested firms shall also provide information in the following areas as available: 1) A description of current experience, knowledge and capabilities directly applicable to the performance of the scope identified. 2) Brochures providing descriptions of equipment, maintenance and standard warranty, along with a current published commercial pricelist. This Request for Information (RFI) is part of a market research effort that will best address PNNL's needs. This RFI is issued for information and planning purposes only and does not constitute a solicitation. Battelle does not intend to award a contract on the basis of this RFI, or to otherwise pay for information received in response to this RFI. Please provide your expression of interest to the attention of the points of contact listed above. If you have questions or need additional information, they must also be submitted in writing to the points of contact.
