Description

If The Government removes the requirement for the capability to measure surface profiles and surface roughness including but not limited to concave and convex sidewalls and 2D shapes such as a portion of the surface of a particle, then the capability to measure forces including lateral force during scans will be of high importance. A wide variety of force measurements are of interest and the minimum resolvable force will depend upon the AFM system noise as well as the type of cantilever being used and the medium in which the cantilever is operating. Therefore, low system noise as measured in one or more ways will be used as a criterion to select among competing hard-mater AFMs. Suggestions by potential vendors for meaningful system noise specifications are solicited in response to this Amendment to AMD-09-SS21. Also, information about capabilities from vendors who can meet some but not all of the requirements listed in AMD-09-SS21 is solicited.
