Description
The International Boundary Commission, United States and Canada (IBC), is mandated by treaty to maintain an effective boundary line between the two countries. This is accomplished, in part, by keeping a 20-foot wide strip (vista), 10 feet in each country, clear of trees, brush and other obstructions and the boundary monuments in good repair. This is a vista-cutting project located along the U.S. Canadian boundary between Minnesota and Manitoba. A 44.7 mile segment of the boundary will be cleared by this project. Most of the clearing on this project will have to be accomplished using hand tools such as chainsaws and brush cutters. Mechanical equipment such as a tractor and bush hog may be used on portions of the project. Contractor shall clear 44.7 miles of the International Boundary Line vista between the United States (Minnesota) and Canada (Manitoba). Note that the distance given is a horizontal distance and does not take into account peaks and valleys. The approximately 53 international boundary monuments located along this section of boundary shall be inspected, painted and photographed. The work shall be accomplished with chain saws and related hand tools. The majority of this project is generally accessible by vehicle, however the boundary vista is swampy in nature over most of this section of boundary
