Description
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Region 7 (Alaska) intends to award a sole source procurement to Kawerak, Inc., for conducting subsistence harvest surveys of migratory birds and conducting studies on the use and biology of Yellow-billed Loons for the base year. Succeeding years are to only provide subsistence studies of migratory birds. Conduct of a subsistence harvest survey on the take of migratory birds in the Bering Straits/Norton Sound Region with an emphasis on the use of Yellow-billed Loons. Incorporate into the survey the collection of traditional ecological knowledge on the biology and use of Yellow-billed Loons. Gather migratory and other bird and egg harvest information for the correct survey periods in the following Bering Strait communities: Unalakleet, Shishmaref, St. Michael, Elim, Brevig Mission, Teller, White Mountain, Wales, Gambell, Savoonga, Diomede, Nome. Communities know to harvest Yellow-billed Loons are to be surveyed intensively through a census of households. Audit the information for correctness and completeness, and return the information (survey forms) to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game Division of Subsistence, Data Management/Analysis, according to the schedule under Section F, Deliverables. Conduct traditional ecological knowledge study on the use and biology of Yellow-billed Loons in conjunction with the Harvest Survey. Traditional ecological knowledge study is planned only for 2009. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals, and the Government does not intend to accept proposals received. Award will be made 15 days after publication of this notice.
