Description
Princeton University Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) a US Department of Energy Prime Contractor has a requirement for a detailed Study of its Computer Center's cooling system by an Assessment Team of individuals with extensive experience in computer data center evaluation and design. Interested qualified parties requested to submit Standard Form 330 Architect-Engineer Qualifications to the PPPL RFP 09-037F Coordinator L. Sutton at lsutton@pppl.gov by 2:00 P.M. Thursday 26 February 2009 for review and technical evaluation. The Computer Center (PPLCC) was established circa 1977 to support the computing requirements for both experimental and business aspects of PPPL. In recent years a significant quantity of high-density servers has replaced older technology servers. Existing computers are air-cooled via Computer Room Air Conditioner (CRAC) units forcing supply air through an under floor air plenum providing the computer racks bottom to top air cooling. These existing units have a rated nominal 80 ton total cooling capacity along with humidification and electric reheat capability. The Study shall include on-site inspection and measurements that include but are not limited to: Computer Room Floor Layout showing electrical and mechanical equipment in a AutoCAD ® or a CAD program that can be translated into AutoCAD ® format; an electrical single-line diagram (power protection and distribution infrastructure sizing and locations); a mechanical single-line diagram (computer room cooling room infrastructure sizing and locations); on-site thermal and electrical load assessments; Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) study with computer modeling; an assessment of existing PPLCC conditions listing both pro and cons; assessment of projected computational requirements and existing CRAC units for both condition and efficiency. Study also to include a number of conceptual "what if" recommendations with estimated dollar values.
