- This notice is issued by The SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, located in Menlo Park, California. We are soliciting responses from interested parties to provide all personnel, materials, equipment, facilities and services required to design, fabricate, test, and deliver two (2) first article units, one (1) of Slit type 1 (four blades of either Si3N4 or Ta90W10), and one (1) of Slit type 2 (eight blades, four blades Si3N4 and four blades Ta90W10). After acceptance of the first article units by SLAC, the vendor shall fabricate, test, and deliver a quantity of twelve (12) Slit systems through 2011. The technical requirements are as follows: Aperture size: 30 mm x 30 mm (maximum) -30 mm x -30 mm (minimum with full overlap) Resolution: 1 micron in full step Repeatability: ± 1.0 micron (uni-directional) ± 3.0 micron (bi-directional) Accuracy: ± 2 micron (over 3 mm) Blades: Blade material made of Silicon Nitride (Si3N4 ) or Tantalum (Ta90W10) for the type 1. Both materials for the type 2. Each blade is 3 mm in diameter with highly polished surface. Polish should be better than 25 nm RMS roughness Electrical connection: External SUB-D connector Limit switches: Limit switches on all blades incl. UHV compatible wires; UHV electrical feed-through into external 15 pin SUB-D connector Mechanical dimensions: External diameter of UHV chamber shall not exceed 202.50 mm; Distance from center to outer motor part shall not exceed 196 mm; Thickness: 140 mm. Weight: ~18 kg Motors: Externally mounted standard Nema-17 stepping motor, MDrive17Plus2 preferred. Mechanical connection: 6” CF flange on both sides as standard Outer surface: Stainless steel Blade thickness: Able to accommodate 4, 5 and 10 mm thick blades and can accommodate cylindrical blade design Mounting of blades: Blades can be mounted with the sloped edge. Encoders: Optical linear encoders. Vendors interested in performing this requirement are invited to provide the following information to SLAC Purchasing Office no later than 27 February 2009.
