Description
The Department Of Veterans Affairs, VISN 15 Contracting Office intends to purchase, sole-source, an Impella 2.5 Circulatory Assist Device from Abiomed, Inc. The salient characteristics for this item are: Circulatory assist device which is inserted percutaneously through the femoral artery identical to normal cardiac catheterization procedures without the need for surgical assistance. Systems which require the additional use of the femoral vein to complete the circuit of blood flow are not acceptable, as they also require the use of much larger catheters, leading to more bleeding complications. The system shall provide active unloading of the left ventricle by pumping blood directly from the left ventricle to the ascending aorta. This allows the left ventricle to pump less blood to the body, thus allowing it to work less. The system shall not require arterial (transeptal) puncture to place any catheters into the left side of the heart, which will allow for a less complicated procedure. The system shall use a micro-pump whichis placed into the aorta by means of a catheter, and shall not require the use of an externally placed pump. FDA device approval is required. This purchase is for the St. Louis VA Medical Center. Abiomed, Inc is the sole manufacturer of this product. Any contractor who wishes to offer their product in response to this sole-source announcement must submit their technical data to support their claim no later than February 9, 2009. A fax or e-mail response will be accepted. Fax number is 913-758-6495. The Contracting Office address is: VA Heartland Network 15, Network Business Office, Contracting Section (10N15-90), 4101 S. 4th Street Trafficway, Leavenworth, KS. 66048-5055. E-mail address is donald.denno@va.gov. Point of contact is Mr. Donald Denno, 913-758-6408.
