- Description
- Drain, Clean, and Refill CHB hydraulic power unit reservoir and replace the recirculation and discharge filters SCOPE OF WORK Contractor(s) will participate in the Pre-Job Briefings to insure that good communications is established with WANCDF Engineering, Operations and Maintenance departments before any work begins. Extreme caution shall be taken to insure that unplanned outages will not occur. Safety note: A confined space permit will be required to perform this scope of work. ***A note on cleanliness: The hydraulic system fluid / components are required to stay clean during all activities in this activity. The level of cleanliness is in the micron scale. Dust is larger as a whole than the micron scale. This should be a good indication as to what is expected when the system is to remain "clean."*** Individuals cleaning the reservoir shall wear lint free coveralls / suits, lint free chemical protective gloves, hairnets and splash proof goggles to reduce the probability of hair, clothing lint, etc from entering the system. Westinghouse will provide 55 gallon drums for reclaimed hydraulic oil (at least 20 empty drums.)(Westinghouse catalog# 15330), 16 each 55 gallon drums of clean Houghto-Safe 620 (Catalog# 12413), Discharge filters (WA01059) and duplex strainer filters (WA01060) Contractor shall provide all other parts, material and equipment to perform this activity. Contractor provided special equipment: Transfer Pump and filter unit (including transfer pump filters) to Filter new and old fluid to 5 microns during transfer to and from containers. Contractor to provide the transfer pump filters. Contractor shall use Dry Absorb for small quantities of liquid, which then makes it a solid waste product. Contractor shall double bag all solid waste and label the bags "CHB-HYPU-101" Contractor shall contact the POC for disposal of all waste. 1) Draining / Cleaning Activities: Connect a filter / pump rig to the drain valve of the reservoir. Pump reservoir contents into the Westinghouse provided empty drums. A) Record observations of reservoir. Pay attention for any signs of metal shavings. Immediately report any findings of pieces within the reservoir greater than ¼" in size to the POC. B) Remove Access covers on each end of reservoir taking care not to damage gaskets. Obtain confined space entry permit as required for the reservoir. C) Ensure that all items are out of pockets, etc, prior to entering / partially entering reservoirs. Ensure all cleaning rags used are lint free. ABSORBENT PADS SHALL NOT BE USED INSIDE THE HYDRAULIC RESERVOIRS AS THEY TEND TO LEAVE FIBERS THAT WILL DAMAGE THE NEW PUMPS. RESERVOIRS ARE INTERNALLY COATED WITH A SPECIAL COATING. NO METAL SHALL BE INTRODUCED INTO THE RESERVOIRS. D) It is suggested that the drain valve remain open and ‘push' as much fluid as possible into the drain valve. E) Hand wipe the entire interior of the hydraulic reservoir using lint free cloth. F) Close the access covers. Be careful not to over-tighten the nuts on the manhole covers. G) Using a filter pump with a minimum of 5-micron filtration, pump the Westinghouse provided new hydraulic fluid into reservoir until proper level is reached in reservoir. During filling of reservoir constantly check access cover gaskets for leakage and stop filling if leakage occurs and repair as needed. 2) Contact the POC when cleanout and refill is complete to operate all CHB-HYPU-101 pumps A through E, all CHB conveyors and both CHB-Cooling units to circulate the old fluid from the equipment and associated lines back to the reservoir. When all equipment has been operated, replace the fluid per the following: 3) Connect a filter / pump rig to the drain valve of the reservoir. Pump reservoir contents into Westinghouse provided empty drums. Take care and DO NOT INTRODUCE ANY DIRT INTO THE RESERVOIR. 4) Replace both recirculation pump filters with new Westinghouse provided filters Catalog# WA01060. A. ALIGN the filter selector handle to the filter that is to remain in service. WARNING: Filter may be pressurized with hot hydraulic fluid. Care must be taken to prevent burns when removing filter vent plug and drain. B. On the "now" out of service filter, LOOSEN the vent plug on top of filter to relieve any pressure. C. PLACE a bucket under the filter housing AND REMOVE the filter drain plug. D. WHEN the filter housing has drained completely, REMOVE the filter cartridge housing from the mounting. E. REMOVE the filter cartridge. F. INSTALL a new Westinghouse provided WA01060 filter cartridge into the filter cartridge housing. G. INSTALL the filter cartridge housing onto the mounting AND TIGHTEN. H. Tighten the vent plug in top of filter. I. Install the drain plug in the bottom of the filter housing and ensure it is tight. J. ALIGN the filter selector handle to place the replaced filter into service and the other filter to be replaced out of service. WARNING: Filter may be pressurized with hot hydraulic fluid. Care must be taken to prevent burns when removing filter vent plug and drain. K. On the "now" out of service filter, LOOSEN the vent plug on top of filter to relieve pressure. L. PLACE a bucket under the filter housing AND REMOVE the filter drain plug. M. WHEN the filter housing has drained completely, REMOVE the filter cartridge housing from the mounting. N. REMOVE the filter cartridge. O. INSTALL a new Westinghouse provided WA01060 filter cartridge into the filter cartridge housing. P. INSTALL the filter cartridge housing onto the mounting AND TIGHTEN. Q. Tighten the vent plug in top of filter. R. Install the drain plug in the bottom of the filter housing and ensure it is tight. S. ALIGN the filter selector handle to the center position for duplex filter operation. 5) Replace the Discharge Filter for all 4 pumps with Westinghouse provided filters Catalog number WA01059. 6) Using the Transfer Pump and filter unit with a minimum of 5-micron filtration, pump the Westinghouse provided new hydraulic fluid into reservoir until proper level is reached in reservoir. During filling of reservoir constantly check the access cover gaskets for leakage and stop filling if leakage occurs and repair as needed. 7) Reinstall all covers or guards removed during this activity. 8) Clean work area of debris and spilled fluids. 9) Provide a written report of all work performed
