Description
Classification code 13 Ammunition and Explosives. Title: Cal.30 AP M2 Projectiles Market Research Solicitation Number: RFI30CALM2AMMO Notice Type: Sources Sought Synopsis: Information is being collected for market survey purposes and not as a request for proposal or as an obligation on part of the Government. The Government does not intend to award a contract on the basis of this market survey and will not pay for information solicited. Please identify any proprietary information submitted. All information submitted will be retained as market research, and WILL NOT be released to the public or other producers. The Natick Soldier Research, Development & Engineering Center (NSRDEC) on behalf of itself and multiple other DoD agencies is seeking supply sources for Cal.30 armor piercing ammunition, DODIC A201 (Various NSNs and weapon systems). The projectile commonly known as AP M2 weighs 166 grains and has a hardened steel core. This ammunition is now considered non-standard, but is still widely used for characterizing ballistic resistance of materials and equipment. The government is interested in the projectile only, not assembled cartridges ready to fire. Supplies may be from demilitarized stocks or new production. All applicable military drawings and specifications will be provided by the government and must be followed. The Government does not intend to deviate on any dimensional tolerance or specifications. The Government is seeking suppliers/producers that can provide evidence of conforming and serviceable inventories, and/or demonstrated past experience producing this or similar items. The total solicitation quantities could be a single order for 500,000 to 1,000,000 projectiles or more, with minimum regular deliveries of 10,000 rounds per month. Please identify the earliest delivery date (after contract award) and maximum quantity your firm could provide per month. Potential suppliers are requested to identify their total conforming inventory available for government purchase. Potential producers are requested to submit a capability statement, which reflects their manufacturing capabilities, potential monthly production rates taking other production work into consideration, specialized equipment, critical skills, etc. Initial and regular inspections of deliveries will ensure serviceability and/or adherence to specifications. Deliveries will be made to Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD. Even though the Government does not intend to fund any equipment capitalization, please indicate the type of additional equipment needed, lead time to obtain and get into operation, and a Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) cost if capital equipment is required to commence production. All potential suppliers/producers submissions MUST contain business size information. All potential suppliers/producers interested in any future solicitation must be registered in the Central Contractor Registration Database. Participation in this effort is strictly voluntary with no cost or obligation to be incurred by the Government. The Government will in no way be obligated to purchase all or any part of the item described above. Any of the information stated above concerning the item is subject to change. Information obtained from this request may used for competitive bidding purposes. Respondents should clearly identify and mark any business sensitive and/or proprietary information within their responses. Interested firms that can meet all the requirements set forth above are requested to submit responses with supporting documentation via email or fax to the point of contact below by close of business 30 NOV 2008. The point of contact is Mr. Michael Codega (508) 233-4224, e-mail michael.codega@us.army.mil, fax (508) 233-5985.
