Description
The first National Math Panel Forum will be held at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, DC. The meeting is being held on the premises of the hotel. The Department of Education (ED) is required, per contractual obligation to utilize the catering services of the hotel. The hotel requires that "all food and beverages served at functions associated with the Event must be provided, and served by the Hotel..." As part of its tight schedule, the Forum will offer lunch for an estimated 320 people on Tuesday, October 7, 2008. Therefore, ED intends to award the contract to the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, located at 2660 Woodley Road, NW, Washington, DC 20008. See FAR 5.101(a)(2). On March 13, 2008, the President and Secretary Spellings received the National Math Panel's groundbreaking final report, Foundations for Success: Report of the National Mathematics Advisory Panel. The report contains 45 findings and recommendations on numerous topics, including curricular content, learning processes, instructional practices and materials, teachers, assessments, and future research priorities. To answer the National Math Panel's call to build a sustained effort to improve mathematics education, the U.S. Department of Education partnered with the Conference Board of Mathematical Sciences to request educational, scholarly, business, and community organizations and other interested parties participate in a Forum with the goal of creating a network committed to taking to improve mathematics education for the years to come, using the findings and recommendations of the National Mathematics Advisory Panel as a platform for action. The Forum was announced in the Federal Register. All responsible sources may submit a response which, if timely received, must be considered by the agency
