Description
The United States Government Printing Office (GPO) is establishing a management information system designed to replace its current Production, Estimating, and Planning System (PEPS). The existing system was developed on a mainframe platform in the 1980's to serve as an automated system to monitor day-to-day operations related to in-house production estimating, scheduling, and tracking functions. The system supports production processes to manufacture legislative and executive branch publications including the Congressional Record, Congressional Bills, the Federal Register, and the Code of Federal Regulations. GPO desires to replace PEPS with a more modern and robust system. The replacement system, named the Manufacturing Workflow System (MWS), should provide the same functionality as the current system using a modern, open architecture will also integrate with evolving enterprise-wide systems including GPO's Federal Digital System (FDsys), Oracle Financials applications, Business Objects reporting tool applications, Pitney Bowes delivery tracking system, and the Address Distribution List Management System (ADMS). MWS will have roughly 500 internal users spread across various user classes and there will be no external users of the system. MWS will be aligned with GPO's Strategic Vision for a 21st Century and the agency's enterprise architecture (EA). GPO is requesting industry assessment of our documentation as well as information to determine the capabilities of vendors to provide some or all of the services required for MWS. This information will also be used to revise, if necessary, our Concept of Operations document, Requirements Document, and Acquisition Strategy in order to deliver a world-class management information system. GPO's goal is to implement a system by the end of the 2009 fiscal year.
