- Description
- Fungal vouchers of the Phaeocollybia genus were previously collected for the Forest Service (FS) and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and by Phaeocollybia expert, Dr. Lorelei Norvell of PNW Mycology Service. The Contractor shall sample all 25 Oregon and Washington Phaeocollybia species, including the 15 species currently on the BLM/FS Interagency Special Status/Sensitive Species Program (ISSSSP) list, extract and archive DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) from each specimen, sequence the DNA and add the results to the public databank, GenBank. Fungal specimens to be sampled are located at the Pacific Northwest Mycology Service office and the BLM State Office in Portland. The goal of the ISSSSP is to eventually develop DNA markers for our rare Pacific Northwest Phaeocollybia species so that we can sample these species' DNA presence from mycelium located in substrate without having to rely on locating the seasonally and annually variable fruiting of fungal fruiting bodies known as sporocarps.
