- Description
- NASA/DFRC has a requirement for one (1) lot F18 Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)Beowulf Cluster Upgrades as follows:The RA F18 CFD Beowulf High Performance Computing (HPC) cluster upgrade requires at leastone head node and twenty computational nodes with at least 168 (21x8) CPU cores total. The proposed cluster upgrade is primarily used for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)flow/aircraft simulations at NASA Dryden Flight Research Center (DFRC).One head node:1. 1-U or 2-U standard 19-in rack-mount server case.2. Rack-mount kit.3. Must fit in standard EIA 19-in rack, 42-in deep in the DFRC server room.4. At least 650W redundant power supply.5. At least 1333 GHz FSB.6. At least two Intel quad-core 64-bit 12MB L2 CPUs (with at least a total of 8 cores)each with performance equal or exceed the Intel E5450 Processor.7. At least 16 GB of RAM.8. At least 1 TB of hard drive space.9. One dual-layer DVD +/- R/RW drive.10. Built-in video with 1 VGA port.11. At least three Gigabit network ports.12. At least two 4X 20-Gb/s each Infiniband network ports.13. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 OS installed and configured per customers specifications.14. Factory configured for the Gigabit and Infiniband networks.15. 3-year parts replacement warranty.Computational nodes:1. At least twenty integrated rack-mount computational nodes with specifications listedin item 10 below.2. All of the computational nodes should take at most 14-U standard 19-in rack spacetotal.3. Rack-mount kit.4. Must fit in standard EIA 19-in rack 42-in deep in the DFRC server room.5. Maximum of 7500W total actual power drawn.6. Redundant power supply.7. Integrated chassis management, power, cooling, KVM, and networking devices inenclosure(s).8. At least one Gigabit network connecting all computational nodes and head node for NFSfile mounting, ssh, and other TCP/IP services.9. At least one Infiniband 4X DDR (20-Gbps) network connecting all computational nodesand head node for high performance parallel message passing using MPI and PVM.10. Each computational node has: a.At least 1333 GHz FSB b.At least two Intel quad-core 64 bit 12MB L2 CPUs (total of 8 cores) each withperformance equal or exceed the Intel E5450 Processor. c.At least 16 GB of RAM. d.At least 80 GB of hard drive space. e.Built-in video with one VGA port. f.At least two Gigabit network ports. g.At least one 4X DDR 20-Gb/s Infiniband network ports. h.Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 OS installed and configured per customersspecifications. 11. Factory configured for the Gigabit and Infiniband networks.12. 3-year parts replacement warranty.Other parts and services:1. At least four spare hard drives for the computational nodes, with identical capacity,OS installed and configured identically to the hard drives inside the computationalnodes.2. At least two spare hard drives for the head node, with identical capacity, OSinstalled and configured identically to the hard drive inside the head node.3. Gigabit cables, Infiniband cables, and miscellaneous kvm, cabling, and connectorsrequired to assemble the clusters and the head node.4. Hardware setup, software load and configured, and testing for the entire cluster.NASA/DFRC intends to purchase the above items from Seneca Data Distributors of NorthSyracuse, New York via 10 U.S.C. 2304(c)(1), Only one responsible source and no othersupplies or services will satisfy agency requirements. These upgrades must be compatiblewith existing hardware and software previously provided by Seneca Data Distributors. Award to any other source would result in failutre to meet the Agency's requirements andsubstantial duplication of costs not expected to be recovered through competition. Seneca Data Distributors possess the experience and expertise in providing highperformance computing equipment for research and scientific use to other agencies andorganizations. If award to another source, the systems provided to the government maynot be optimized for high performance computing and/or incompatible with theComputational Fluid Dynamics analysis software that would be used at DFRC.The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12.Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform theeffort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:00 (PST) on August26, 2008. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose ofdetermining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis.Adetermination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and opencompetition basis, based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretionof the government. No oral communications will be accepted in response to this notice. An Ombudsman has been appointed.
