Description
The US Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, is hosting an Industry Day to discuss the project concept and innovative means for acquisition, design, construction, real estate and construction management of Gulf Intracoastal Waterway South Closure Project described below. This Industry Day will be held on Wednesday, 6 August 2008, 9:00 am until 12:30 pm, at the New Orleans Marriott Metairie at Lakeway, 3838 N. Causeway, Metairie, LA 70002. Registration for this event will be available at http://www.mvn.usace.army.mil/ebs/ after 25 July 2008. Fill in your company name and e-mail address, attendee name, company address. The point of contact for this event is Nancy Tullis, 504-862-1604. Project Description: The closure project shall be constructed to block the tidal surge from a hurricane event. The closure is currently located just south of the confluence of the Algiers and Harvey Canals. Work shall include channel excavation (dredging and land-based), construction of a pump station, two large sector gated structures, all the related mechanical and electrical items, the construction of braced excavations as needed for construction, Floodwall construction along the west bank of the GIWW, levee embankment construction and items related thereto. Interim protection will be required at all features not completed by June 2011. The pump station shall be in the order of 22,000 cfs to 27,000 cfs. Pumps shall be the vertical lift type or a adaptation of the vertical lift pump. The main sector gate shall have an approximate opening size of 200 ft, the secondary gate shall have an opening width of approximately 110ft. The gates themselves shall be welded steel frame construction, the gatebays shall be reinforced concrete. Innovative construction methods shall be encouraged.
