Description
The solicitation for this project will be posted to Fed Biz Opps on or about July 8, 2008. This is a commercial item acquisition that has been tailored to fit the Government’s method of trading goods for services. Work includes: felling, skidding, processing, decking and hauling of saw and non-saw material, piling of landing slash, landing rehabilitation, erosion control work, temporary road construction, temporary road rehabilitation, road maintenance, non-commercial thinning, slash treatment (handpiling), and slash treatment (grapple piling). The Woodtick Stewardship Project is located on the Whitman Ranger District – Unity Office of the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest, Baker County, Oregon. Specifically, it consists of an area north and west of Unity Reservoir including a portion of the West Fork of Burnt River and Dooley Gulch. Because of the proximity to Woodtick Village Wildland Urban Interface, this area of land is a high priority for restoration and fuel treatment activities. In brief, the objectives of the project are as follows: ·Improve Forest Health – Provide growing space for healthy trees by managing overstory and understory stocking, spacing and species composition. ·Reintroduce Fire – Provide mechanical fuel treatments and preparatory work to manage the effects of the return of fire as a disturbance mechanism. ·Reduce fuel loading and continuity (both existing and created fuels) by mechanical and hand means. Any resultant contract will be a Task Order contract with clauses for timber removal. The project is located in Township 12 South, Range 36 East, Sections 1, 2, 11, 12, and 13; Township 11 South, Range 37 East, Section 31; Township 12 South, Range 37 East, Sections 5-8, Willamette Meridian, Baker County, Oregon.
