- Description
- NASA/ARC has a requirement for one bench top laboratory interferometer system whichwill allow Ames scientists to verify optical system performance in the ACE test bed, withthe ultimate goal of producing a technology capable of directly imaging earth-likeplanets orbiting in the habitable zone around nearby stars. NASA/ARC intends to purchase the device from Zygo Corporation, 888 East Arques Avenue,Sunnyvale, CA 94085-4519.The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12.The interferometer system must include the following components and capabilities:Interferometer instrument mainframe1 Mpixel CCD imager100mm diameter coated transmission flat (1/20 wave flatness)100mm diameter transmission sphere (1/20 wave accuracy)Software package to operate and allow data acquisition of wave front informationAbility to run in a Windows XP and Unix/Linux environmentFor practical use, we also require that the laser source used by the interferometer below-cost, self-aligning, and user replaceable in the field. Vendor shall provide local24 hour service calls for repair services.Description of Use in ProjectThe purpose of this procurement is to obtain the ability to measure and characterizeoptical wave fronts over a 100 mm diameter aperture to an accuracy of /300. Theinterferometer system is intended to allow Ames scientists to verify optical systemperformance in the ACE test bed, with the ultimate goal of producing a technology capableof directly imaging earth-like planets orbiting in the habitable zone around nearbystars. The interferometer system will be placed in the optical path at different pointsto verify that the wave front is properly corrected. Our beam size will be as large as100mm in some places, so the input aperture of the interferometer will need to be atleast that large, proper verification of the wave front also requires the use of a 100mmtransmission optical flat and a 100mm diameter transmission sphere. Each of theseaccessory components must have a surface quality of 1/20 wave.Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform theeffort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:30 p.m. local timeon May 12, 2008.Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determiningwhether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by theGovernment not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretion of the government.Questions regarding this acquisition must be submitted in writing (e-mail is preferred)no later than 2:00 p.m. local time on May 5, 2008. Oral communications are not acceptable in response to this notice. All responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by the agency. An Ombudsman has been appointed. See NASA Specific Note "B".
