Description
This synopsis is being posted to both the Federal Business Opportunities(FBO) page located at http://www.fbo.gov and the Navy Electronic Commerce on Line(NECO) site located at https://www.neco.navy.mil. While it is understood that FBO is the single point of entry for posting of synopsis and solicitations to the internet, NECO is the alternative in case FBO is unavailable. Please feel free to use either site to access information posted by the Navy Sea Systems Command. NUWCDIV Newport will be issuing a solicitation which will result in a Fixed Price order for proposals from experienced seawater seal manufacturers to evaluate an existing seal design and to develop an alternative seal design. The current seal is used on a submarine use pump and is approximately 9.5 inches in diameter and seals a shaft approximately 7 inches in diameter. It consists of a carbon faced seal mated with a polished hard faced rotating mating ring. The seal redesign will be completely Government owned with unlimited rights. The drawings developed by the contractor shall provide sufficient detail to ensure that the redesigned seals can be manufactured from the provided drawings. The goal for design life is 15 years and 15,000 cycles. The contractor shall ensure that the proposed seal redesign is compatible with existing pump hardware such that the new seal would be a direct replacement for the existing seal and will fit into the existing envelope of the current seal. The period of performance will be 20 weeks from award. Contractor must be JCP ( United States / Canada Joint Certification Program) certified by time of award to receive drawings. This procurement may result in multiple orders. The solicitation is not expected to be available earlier than 17 April 2008. Our department no longer issues solicitations or amendments in paper form. Instead, they may be accessed at our web site http://www.npt.nuwc.navy.mil/contract/. We also provide electronic access in our Bid Room.
