Description
The Department of Military Psychology, Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR), intends to award a sole source contract to the American Psychiatric Institute for Research and Education (APIRE)in support of the RAD III-funded research mission t o develop interventions to prevent Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) among recent survivors of traumatic events for the Army. WRAIR Department of Military Psychology will purchase a version of APIREs Survey of Psychiatric Patients and Treatments to as sist in a study that will help in developing interventions for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and associated conditions. In addition, WRAIR Department of Military Psychology is purchasing the services of APIRE in implementing the survey, and aiding in analysis and interpretation of the results. Scientists at the APIRE have developed a unique survey of mental health providers across all disciplines called the Survey of Psychiatric Patients and Treatments. This is the only survey of its kind that provides data that characterizes the typical caseload characteristics and patient characteristics of all mental health disciplines including psychiatry, psychology, and social work. In addition, APIREs survey allows for determinations of treatment g uideline adherence, with their work appearing in numerous peer-reviewed medical journals. These are exactly the types of analyses of Army mental health providers that WRAIR Department of Military Psychology needs conducted. In addition, APIRE is the only organization that has collected this type of data across mental health disciplines and has done so for many years. APIRE is the only organization to conduct studies that have looked at the range of mental health providers regardless of specialty, including studies examining parity of mental health benefits in the federal insurance system and the treatment of schizophrenia. No other organization has shown the capability of developing questions that can efficiently assess the varied experiences of the different mental health disciplines and produce usable data. Finally, APIRE scientists years of experience working with this type of data puts them in a unique position to interpret the results of the data collected. This contract will provide an in strument, expertise and experience that can not be found in any other contractor. The contract specialist for this requirement is Thea Hofgesang, thea.hofgesang@amedd.army.mil.
