- Description
- The Joint STARS E-8C aircraft is restructuring the Communication Navigation Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) System by implementing a certifiable 8.33/25 kHz VHF Radio for Air Traffic Control (ATC) Voice Radio System capability and a new SINCGARS radio. This Weapon System Trainers/Navigator Training Systems (WSTs/NTSs) concurrency modification will provide certifiable training for pilots, co-pilots, flight engineers and navigators at Robins AFB, GA. Implementation of new radios for the E-8Cs has been initiated and will require hardware and software changes in the WSTs/NTSs trainers if currency with the aircraft is to be maintained. The WSTs/NTSs modification will deliver the required concurrency with the aircraft radios upgrade program and facilitate increased flight training for the E-8C. Design and build of the radio modification kits will be accomplished at Rockwell Collins, Sterling, VA. The kits will then be shipped to Robins AFB, GA for installa tion and test. This effort will implement those concurrency changes for the WSTs/NTSs to meet the requirements of AFI 36-2248 and 36-2251. These AFIs outline the requirements for concurrent trainers and supplements the requirements of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Advisory Circular AC-120-40B/C, Airplane Simulator Qualification.
