- Description
- Program Manager Advanced Amphibious Assault (PM AAA), Marine Corps Systems Command (MARCORSYSCOM) has a requirement for acquisition to conduct research and development for applications of Intelligent Machining (IM) of Advanced Defense Materials at the Joint Systems Manufacturing Center (JSMC) Lima, OH. The JSMC is a Government-Owned Contractor-Operated (GOCO) manufacturing facility. MARCORSYSCOM intends to contract on a sole source basis with General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) for this requirement, as GDLS Lima is the only known manufacturer having the necessary expertise, capabilities, and equipment to research, develop, install, and operate IM at the JSMC. GDLS has been the sole contractor responsible for manufacturing and facility operations at the JSMC since February 1982. The contract shall include research and development of IM, the standardization of machining software, process management, program management, and optimization of machining operations for a variety of high performance materials using new and existing manufacturing assets and processes at the JSMC. This project will develop an advanced, flexible, high-speed machining cell for processing the advanced materials used to manufacture military vehicles. It will also allow necessary updates to current technologies and fund the purchase of the Intelligent Machining Cell. These improvements will collectively reduce processing time and increase product quality. The Contractor will be required to procure a ?state of the art? Intelligent Machining Center (IMC) to research and validate the machining of Advanced Defense Materials for use in future military combat vehicles. The contract is expected to be awarded in FY 2008. Only those questions submitted in writing, to Ms. Robin Kuschel, Contracting Officer, 14041 Worth Avenue, Woodbridge, VA 22192 or emailed to KuschelRJ@efv.usmc.mil will receive a response.
