Description
Our questions are simple and we would appreciate it if you could post these with a response as a modification. 1. Do the customer require a new licence for the ICDD database, and if so, PDF-2 or PDF-4? 2. Does the customer want a power conditioner or a UPS backup system, and if it is a battery backup, for how long should the battery last in the event of a power failure. ANSWERS: A new PDF database should be included. PDF 2 will suit our needs. The power conditioner is not an uninterruptible power supply, merely a power conditioner. MSHA X-Ray Diffractometer System Requirements The base system will include a minimum 2.2 kW generator for use with long fine line focus copper x-ray tubes with a 6 o takeoff angle. The goniometer will be a vertical Bragg-Brentano focused beam configuration, with a radius of between 185mm and 290mm and an angular range spanning 0-120 degrees two theta at minimum. A sample spinner will be included. A theta compensating variable divergence slit will ensure that the irradiated area of the sample remains constant and permit a 15mm minimum length of sample to be constantly irradiated. Optics common to all proposed systems will also include divergent and diffracted beam Soller slits. An automated sample changer with a minimum capacity of 40 samples will be included. The system price will also include the cost of 100 sample holders designed for samples deposited on 25 mm diameter silver membrane filters and the cost of a closed circuit water recirculator for cooling the anode. Software packages provided with the system will provide automated instrument control and data acquisition functions, and quantitative analysis with sophisticated user defined and controlled profile fitting and phase identification capabilities. The first configuration will include a diffracted beam monochromator, an ionized gas or scintillation counter, and associated slits. The second variation will replace the conventional point counter and graphite monochromator with a beta filter and a high speed detector capable of simultaneous data acquisition across a range of 1.5o two theta minimum at maximum intervals of .02o two theta or less. Alternatively, an energy dispersive detector optimized for copper k-alpha radiation can be quoted. The third configuration will include a 16kW rotating anode generator and accessory equipment quoted as an option. All systems should include the cost of an electric power conditioning system suitable for the electrical service requirements of the instrument.
