Description
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) Center for Cancer Research (CCR) intends to procure Yeast Two-hybrid Screening Services (constructions of bait, constructs, prey libraries, and delivery of resulting binding interaction data) on a sole source basis with Myriad Genetics; 320 Wakara Way; Salt Lake City, Utah 84108. This acquisition will be conducted under the procedures for acquiring commercial items/services as authorized in FAR Part 12 and under the authority to use simplified procedures for commercial requirements as provided in FAR 13.501. The North American Industry Classification System Code is 541380 and the business size standard is $11M. The purpose of this requirement is for the NCI to acquire access to an efficient and reliable yeast two-hybrid assay technology that maximizes the chances of detecting physiologically relevant binding interactions while minimizing false-positive data. Myriad Genetics researchers developed a highly automated and robust high-throughput yeast two-hybrid platform called ProNet. Using ProNet, each protein of interest is analyzed as a series of several overlapping fragments or baits. ProNet uses a highly efficient mating strategy whereby a single bait fragment is tested against several million unique prey fragments. The capacity and throughput of the ProNet process enables Myriad Genetics to do simultaneous analysis of hundreds of proteins. Myriad has minimized false positive results that typical plague yeast two-hybrid experiments. The use of multiple reporter genes, specially constructed activation domain libraries, and a panel of proprietary specificity tests substantially reduce the level of false positive results. Furthermore, our analysis of over 56,000 yeast two-hybrid screens has identified those proteins that tend to behave as false positives and permits the elimination of many remaining false positive results. Thus, Myriad estimates that its false positive rate is as low as 1 to 3%, affording a significantly greater fidelity than other yeast two-hybrid platforms. Myriad Genetics is the only source known to the NCI that offers a unique combination of experience, technology, bio-informatics, activation domain libraries and industrial scale throughput to enable and complete a custom yeast two-hybrid program. Myriad Genetics resources and experimental approaches ensure the highest quality of results in the shortest time frame. No other technology is capable of completing so many high quality, exhaustive, yeast two-hybrid searches for a single protein in 4 to 6 months. Myriad?s strategy dictates that an average of 30 searches are performed on any one given protein. Other laboratories are not able to complete such an exhaustive search program on any one protein, and therefore are unable to ensure delivery of such comprehensive results. The capacity and throughput of the ProNet process enables Myriad to pursue this unique screening strategy. This is not a request for competitive quotations. However, if any interested party believes it can provide the above supplies and services, it may submit a statement of capabilities. All information furnished shall be in writing and must contain sufficient detail to allow the NCI to determine if it can meet the above requirements herein. Capability statements must be received in the contracting office by 1:00 PM ET on August 29, 2007. Faxed or emailed capability statements are not acceptable. Please mail one original and one copy of the capability statement to the NCI contracting office. If you have any questions, please contact Malinda Holdcraft, Contract Specialist via electronic mail at holdcram@exchange.nih.gov or via fax at 301-402-413. It is the responsibility of the contractor/vendor to ensure all questions etc., have been received in the contracting office. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information shall be received solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. No collect calls will be accepted. In order to receive an award, contractor(s) must be registered in and have valid certifications in the Central Contractor Registration (CCR) www.ccr.gov and the Online Representations and Certifications Application (ORCA) http://bpn.orca.gov. Please reference NCI-70125-NG on all correspondence.
