- Description
- The Naval Air Weapons Division China Lake seeks proposals for a firm fixed price research report on thermochronometric analysis of the advection of mass and heat as it may relate to formation of a geothermal system using the Hawthorne, NV, area as a model. This study shall utilize (U-Th)/He mineral thermochronometric techniques to assess the rate of uplift and cooling of rock mass in the vicinity of the central Wassuk Range that lies adjacent to the Hawthorne Army Ammunition Depot (HWAD) located in west-central Nevada. These techniques shall be applied to apatite, zircon, titanite, monazite, rutile, magnetite, and xenotime recovered from exposed plutonic rocks that crop-out less than 5km from a hot geothermal well in the Walker Lake basin. The successful offeror should have the capability to analyze for U-Th-Pb series mineral as well as samarium, all of which can be vital to correctly interpreting the basic thermochronometric data. The study must incorporate and reconcile previous thermochronometric work done in the study area, and shall utilize previously existing geological and geophysical data sets that are available to prepare an uplift-cooling model for the Wassuk Range. The GPO will provide gravity and ground-magnetic data for use in the data interpretation phase. Tectonic and structural geologic framework are available from published literature. The study must be completed in two years or less, and the required product will be a technical report fully documenting the sampling scheme employed, analyses that were performed, all analytical results, and the a full explanation of the resultant crustal advection model and how it relates to formation of a geothermal system. Analytical results can be provided as appendices to the main document. Sample locations shall be recorded using precision GPS technology with locations included in the data appendices. This procurement is intended to result in a Firm Fixed Price contract with delivery of the report 2 years after award. This procurement is full and open competition. It is the Government's intent to award a single contract to the offeror who provides the best overall value to the Government. The solicitation will be issued on or about 25 August 2007 All responsible sources may submit a proposal that shall be considered by the agency.
