Description
1. GENERAL: The San Luis National Wildlife Refuge Complex received MMS monies to repair the vehicle crossing over Deadman Creek at the Merced NWR. The vehicle crossing over Deadman Creek on the Merced NWR is a vital road crossing on the Refuge. The crossing is the principle point of access to and from both the maintenance yard and the manager's quarters. The current degree of erosion that has occurred to the road crossing due to the high rates of water flow has become a serious safety concern. Making these improvements at this crossing will not only enable the Refuge to continue managing habitat at a high level for the benefit of wildlife, but also provide a safe working and living environment. The project calls for the removal and replacement of the headwall and water control boxes on Deadman Creek. 2. SCOPE: The project will involve the hiring of a contractor to remove the existing dilapidated metal headwall and four water control boxes and constructing a new enforced cement headwall, footing, and tying four flashboard cement water control boxes to four existing 36" diameter polyurethane pipes. Below are the specifics for the project: 1) Construct temporary coffer dam and remove after the project's completion; 2) Remove existing metal headwall and water control boxes; 3) Excavate work area; 4) Pour in place 75 linear feet of rebar enforced concrete headwall approximately 8' high and 8" think w/ 4 flashboard weirs (8' high to tie into existing 36" diameter polyurethane piping). Follow natural slope of creek bank; 5) Pour in place 75 linear feet of rebar enforced concrete flooring approximately 3' x 1'6" under headwall. To include water stop gaps to prevent undermining of structure. 6) Backfill behind new structure and return road to its original condition. 3.
