Description
The U.S. Army RDECOM Acquisition Center, Natick Contracting Division, Natick, MA has a research and development requirement to conduct microbiological testing to evaluate existing Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAPS) of fresh fruits and vegetables to support the safety of the extended shelf life packaging strategy. Completion of this effort shall lead to the identification of practicable solutions for providing harvest quality product in support of the US Navy Fleet. NSF Davis Fresh, a division of N SF International, has the credentials, affiliations and patented technology to provide the unique research and design expertise to enable the government to develop containers for safer shelf life extensions and provide the pertinent data to promote shelf e xtensions of various fresh produce commodities. The Government anticipates awarding one (1) Firm-Fixed Price Purchase Order to NSF International, 789 Dixboro Road, Ann Arbor, MI 48105-9723 on a basis of other than full and open competition under the autho rity of FAR Subpart 6.302.1; only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements. This contract is being awarded for a six month research effort which will consist of 3 phases and an optional 4th phase. Phases I through III consists of microbiological testing and evaluation and will support the identification of existing concept technology for selected fresh produce packaged in the best shipping configurations and utilizations of membrane technology for extende d shelf life performance. The optional Phase IV will use the previous phases research to develop food safety program requirements. Services shall be FOB Destination and inspection and acceptance shall be at destination by the cognizant receiving authority . The North American Industry Classification System Identifier for this procurement is 541710; the Small Business Size Standard is 500 employees.
