Description
The VISN 7 Network Contracting Activity is conducting market research to determine current feasibility of commercial entities to provide compensation and pension examinations for beneficiaries of the Charleston, SC Veterans Administration Medical Center. Responses to this RFI are due by 4:00pm on July 19, 2007. DISCLAMER: This request for information (RFI) is issued solely for information and planning purposes only and does not constitute a solicitation. Neither unsolicited proposals nor any other kinds of offers will be considered in response to this RFI. Responses to this notice are not offers and will not be accepted by the Government to form a binding contract. Responders are solely responsible for all expenses associated with responding to this RFI. All information received in response to this RFI that is marked proprietary or confidential will be treated accordingly. Response to this RFI will not be returned. REQUIREMENTS: Annually, the Department of Veterans Affairs receives over 100,000 original disability compensation claims, over 300,000 re-opened compensation claims, and over 100,000 pension claims. Examinations for disability determination purposes are conducted at local VA medical centers based upon regional office requests. More than 250,000 examinations are performed annually. Examinations are required to support original disability determinations, claims for increased benefits, appellate reviews, and for review of disabilities considered likely to improve. This is a non-personal service. The Contractor shall provide the full range of routine medical disability examinations including, but not limited to: general medical, musculoskeletal, organs of sense (audiology examinations will be performed by VA staff), infectious diseases, immune disorders, nutritional deficiencies, respiratory, cardiovascular, digestive, genitourinary, gynecological, breast, hematologic, skin, endocrine, neurologic, and mental disorders based upon specific VA request. Additionally, special purpose examinations shall be provided including: prisoner of war protocol, cold injury protocol, competency determinations, helpless child, and aid and attendance or housebound status, based upon specific VA request. Specialist examinations shall be provided as requested. Examinations may be performed off-site, if necessary, but the Contractor will perform as many of the examination as possible at the Ralph H. Johnson Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VA Medical Center). The purpose of this RFI is to gather potential sources that have the capabilities to provide these services the Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center.
