Description
In house the vendor will provide full support to the Supply Processing & Distribution section of the Boston Healthcare System in are areas of Decontamination, Sterilization & Preparation of surgical instrumentation. Due to the complexity of the Boston Healthcare System instrumentation consists of a large variety to include Orthopedic, Cardiac, ENT, General, Neurology, Vascular, borrowed instrumentation etc.. Vendor must be familiar with the various instrument types and their special needs. Instruments will be individually evaluated so that the most effective, economical. And appropriate cleaning and disinfecting method is selected. Upon arrival in the decontamination area instruments are to be inspected for tissue or bone remaining in the teeth or grooves. All instruments must be opened during the cleaning process, mutipiece retractors, staplers, etc., must be disassembled prior to cleaning. Microsurgical instrumentation such as cannulated items and items with lumens will be cleaned by hand and according to manufacturer's instructions. Equipment used in this area consists of a washer/decontam, ultrasonic cleaner, scope washer, cart washer. Once items are fully decontaminated and sent to the sterile prep area items are hand dried, checked, and assembled, placed in containers or wrapped, labeled/stamped and the appropriate method of sterilization is selected such as gas (ETO), Steam, or Sterrad placed on the appropriate racks sterilized according to VA Handbook 7176 & manufacturers instructions and upon completion of the sterilization cycle cart is removed from sterilizer until completely cool and placed into operation. Vendor may also perform work off site at their own facility. Vendor would be responsible for the pick-up of instruments that were decontaminated by SPD to remove all gross debris. Complete sterilization process, packaging, and certification that instruments were sterile upon delivery to the BHS. This process would include the steps that are followed in our in-house processing.
