Description
THIS IS A NOTICE OF INTENT, NOT A REQUEST FOR A PROPOSAL. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with Emory University, 1784 N. Decatur Road, Atlanta, GA 30322. The title of the project is CLINICAL CARE FOR WORKERS WITH POTENTIAL WORK EXPOSURE. CDC staff, guest researchers, visiting scientists, and contractors could require urgent, immediate local hospital care under isolation conditions after exposure or suspected exposure and/or showing signs of disease due to serious communicable infectious agents (such as Biosafety level 4 agents, novel influenza strains) or agents of unknown origin. CDC staff working in research laboratory settings with highly hazardous infectious agents and those returning from performing field epidemiology in countries where the corresponding diseases are endemic could be exposed to or infected by unusually contagious and dangerous pathogens. Additionally, CDC workers are engaged in other public health responses, both domestically and internationally, where exposure or illness with a high-consequence pathogen could occur. Such exposure and infection could require that the individual be isolated as a measure to prevent secondary transmission to other individuals. When this occurs, medical examination, laboratory procedures, treatment, and hospitalization under isolation and high-environmental containment conditions may be necessary. The contract covers the care of and isolation of persons exposed to all biosafety level 4 agents, novel influenza strains, and other high consequence pathogens. It should also cover agents that may not have been fully characterized, but are nonetheless, related to occupational exposure or illness. This contract will also include annual review and revisions to protocols, annual training, reporting, and records management responsibilities. Responsible sources who believe they can provide the required services may submit a written capability statement, via e-mail (only), no later than 15 days from the published date of this announcement. Telephone inquiries will be considered nonresponsive. If no responses are received the award will be made to Emory University.
