- Description
- The National Cancer Institute (NCI) plans to procure a Vortex-EX90 Fluorescence Detector with ~90mm snout, quantity of one (1) and a Digital Pulse Processor (DPP) and Pi-Spec Data Acquisition software, quantity of one (1); Manufactured by SII Nano Technology, in Northridge, California or equal. This requirement has been set aside for Small Businesses. This acquisition will be conducted under the procedures for acquiring commercial items authorized in FAR Part 12 and under the authority to use simplified procedures for commercial requirements as provided in FAR 13.501. The North American Industry Classification System code is 334516 and the business size standard is 500 employees. The salient characteristics apply to the Vortex-EX90 and Digital Pulse Processor or equal: Dimensions: Width 10.0 inch, Depth 8.0 inch and, Height 5.0 inches. Fluorescence Detector: a) Useable with an x-ray microprobe; b) Sensitive area of at least 50mm2; c) Minimal dead space; d) Liquid nitrogen cooling is unacceptable, Peltier cooling is acceptable and, e) High sensitivity at trace concentrations, f) Peak to background ratio of >1000, ideally >5000, g) high energy resolution 150eV or better at 6 us shaping time or longer, and; h) high count rates 500,000 counts per second at 0.25 us shaping time. Digital Pulse Processor: a) Sustained high count rate and throughput matched to the detectors capabilities so as not to decrease the detector capabilities, b)overhead for a single spectrum is <<100ms, c) 10 or more spectral ROIs during a continuous scan and d) support of list mode. The NCI requires a Fluorescence Detector for the continuation of work on the development of X-ray fluorescence for use in epidemiologic studies. Justification: The SII Nano Technology Vortex-EX90 Fluorescence Detector is compiled of the aforementioned salient characteristics and has the capability to equip the NCI with continued, un-interruption in the development of X-ray fluorescence. This detector has the specific needs for sensitivity, range and flexibility necessary for the measurement of elements in very small tissue specimens in experiments that have been designed with the Department of Energy.
