- Description
- This is for information collection purposes only. The Continuity Program Office for the Office of the Staff Director for Management (OSDM) is investigating the technical feasibility and practicality of combining separate laptop motherboards into one single case for special-use applications. Laptop motherboards are presumed to be the best available option to meet small size and weight requirements for multiple computer systems. Information will be received electronically to eric.hainzer@frb.gov before the closing date of February 16, 2007. Office phone is (202) 736-5679 Each laptop motherboard shall have separate R.A.M., hard drive, processor, USB drives, RJ-45/RJ-12 connections, and other common technical features and connections (such as sound card) found in new commercial laptops. The concept is to use standard COTS hardware platforms without any hard design circuitry changes. The protective case ?either metal or plastic - shall also have a built-in KVM switch allowing the user to switch between various laptop operating systems using the same monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Additional unspecified requirements and general thoughts yet to be determined are the following: 1. The CD/DVD player can be either part of the laptop motherboard or operate as a stand-alone device connected to the KVM switch. 2. A strong preference is desired for two redundant power supplies that should one fail, the second will operate all systems. 3. Built-in laptop battery will provide UPS should the AC input fail. 4. Camera and microphone are preferential options built into the casetop. 5. Monitor, keyboard, and finger-mouse may be built into the single case similar to most common laptop configurations. The built-in KVM switch will switch between the different motherboard operating systems. Concerns about compactness, integration, cooling, and replacement of motherboards may make this project price prohibitive. Therefore, this announcement is to understand what capabilities the industry may currently possess and no contract will be awarded based upon this request for information (RFI). A companys demonstrated history of past performance in similar areas will be of great value in defining future specifications during the course of investigation of this project. Information will be received electronically to eric.hainzer@frb.gov before the closing date of February 16, 2007. Office phone is (202) 736-567. This is for information collection purposes only.
